In hindsight

Initially, Newsom talked about creating a protest area separate from the torch route. That plan was eventually abandoned. So instead of keeping the Tibetan protestors in one area, the CIty created a Chinese area and kept everyone else out. In essence they created a fake street wth nothing but Chinese nationals who were bussed in, across from the ballpark, and had the torch run there. Not a Tibetan flag in sight. And this gave China the image they wanted to portray. Will be very interested to see how this shakes out over the next few days...
